Computer Types

Buying a computer is not as easy as it sounds. It involves a lot of study and research on the part of the buyer. The buyer should be aware of the fact there are many different types of computers available in the market today. There are different computers for different applications and different tasks. Each computer type has its own different functions and working principles. To select a particular computer type the buyer should first analyse his requirements, in the sense, what is the configuration of the hardware that he requires. Does he require high processing speeds, greater memory space, faster execution of commands, what application he is going to use the computer for, etc. Only then should a buyer select upon a computer type for his use.

Computer Types

As said earlier there are many types of computers available in the market today. You get different specialised computers for different applications and carrying out different functions. For instance you get special gaming computers just for the purpose of playing games on them. Then are the supercomputers that are super fast in their working, executing our instructions much faster than a normal home PC. Thus these are the best computers available till the date. You also have the most common type, that is, the home computers or the home PC’s that are best for use in your house or even small businesses. Then there also the office computers for use in offices and big business setups.

Types of Computers

Let us now look at the different types of computers in brief. These different types include home PC’s, office computers, workstations, gaming computers, minicomputers and mainframe computers.

Home PC’s or Personal Computers:
Personal Computers are microcomputers suitable for personal use at homes. These usually come for low prices, have a moderately small size, and are capable of performing the basic tasks that a computer should perform. The usual use of these home PC’s is for the purpose of internet browsing, word processing, multimedia playing, programming, and playing games. The general classification of these home PC’s can be further done as desktop computers, laptops, PDA’s, portable computers, tablet computers and wearable computers.

Office Computers:
Office Computers are specially designed to carry out certain computing tasks that are required to be performed in an official set up. These tasks may include accounting, maintaining database, computer aided designing, computer aided manufacturing, electronic data processing, customer relationship management and management requirements planning. These computers are used in big offices and large business setups.

Workstations:
Workstations are a high end technical desktop computer basically designed for use by a single person at a time. Such a workstation though used by a single person at a time can be accessed by other users remotely when required. A few of such workstations include Atari Transputer Workstation, Callan Data Systems, Datamax UV-1, Unisys ICON, RISC workstation and Unix wokstation.
